Professional Golfer Has A Horrifying Tan Line On His Head

When Stewart Cink finished the opening round of the Sony Open in Hawai'i, he politely took his cap off to shake the hands of his playing partners. But when he did that, he revealed a hideous tan line formed by apparently never taking his cap off during the day.

Funny tan lines are not new to Cink (see photo below). However, with Cink's head freshly shaved, the line is more pronounced. Ben Taylor captured a screenshot of Cink's head and shared it via Twitter.

Here is Cink in 2012.

Tiger Woods has made $1.3 billion in his career, according to a new Golf Digest report.

Despite a sex scandal that derailed his career and sent sponsors running for the hills, he's still raking in $80+ million per year in winnings, appearance fees, and endorsement deals.

Even after a $110 million divorce, he has enough money for custom houses, yachts, and a private plane to jet around the world with his new girlfriend.

Tiger has made $1.3 billion in his 17-year professional career.

Source: Golf Digest

$109 million of that came from on-course winnings. He's No. 1 on the all-time money list, by far.

But the real money comes from off the course. Of the $83 million he made last year, $71 million came from endorsements.

Former Masters Champion May Have Hit The Golf Shot Of The Year

Charl Schwartzel hit a shot that almost defies belief at the European Tour's Volvo Golf Champions event this weekend.

After the 2011 Masters champion's drive on the par-4 16th hole went way right, it landed on what appeared to be a driveway through the course. Schwartzel was then left with approximately 150 yards to a hole he couldn't see. Rather than play a safe shot, Schwartzel hit a draw off the pavement, over the trees, and to within a few feet of the hole.

Unfortunately for Schwartzel, he would miss the birdie putt and finish nine strokes back at the event held in his native South Africa. Here is the video (via The Golf Channel):

University of Missouri defensive end Michael Sam, who will likely become the first openly gay player in the NFL next season, is working out for teams this week at the NFL combine.

While nobody knows yet how Sam will be received in an NFL locker room or on the field, PGA golfer Steve Elkington's twitter account showed that Sam will certainly face discrimination off the field.

Elkington, or whoever is behind his twitter account, attempted to make a joke on Twitter about Sam participating in the combine, saying "ESPN reporting Michael Sam is leading the handbag throw at NFL combine.... No one else expected to throw today."

Horrible.

The tweet is still up at the time of this writing and no other tweets have been sent from that account. Here is a screengrab of the tweet.

Paula Creamer ended her LPGA drought with one of the most dramatic putts you will ever see.

Creamer sank a 75-foot, bending putt for eagle on the second playoff hole of the HSBC Women's Champions in Singapore. Just prior to the putt, the announcers said it would be a "miracle" if the putt went in as Creamer was just trying to get the ball close.

Here is a GIF of the putt. The video can be seen below.

Creamer had gone 79 events since her last win at the 2010 U.S. Women's Open.

David Klein walks among scultures of wolves

This is a photo of David Klein playing in last weekend's New Zealand Open and it appears as though he just found himself in the midst of some mutated wolves or possibly the set of a werewolf movie.

While the wolves may look real, they are actually 111 sculptures of wolves purchased from a Chinese artist and added to the Hills Golf Club course by the course's architect.

Crazy.

Here is another photo with Tom Bond taking a shot with the wolves lurking behind.

Tiger Woods Is A Complete Mess Right Now

tiger woods

Things are not looking so hot right now for Tiger Woods.

With one month to go until the Masters, it looks like Woods has no chance of breaking his major drought in Augusta this year.

Here's how the year has gone so far for Woods: He shot a 79 at Torrey Pines in January, which was a tie for his second worst round ever. He's won 8 times at Torrey Pines, so shooting a 79 was disconcerting. It also led to him being cut from the event on Saturday.

Then he went to Dubai, and finished tied for 41st. He was struggling with his driver in Dubai, and didn't do much.

After Dubai he played at the Honda Classic. He withdrew on Sunday after suffering back spasms. He was +5 through 13 holes when he withdrew. It was a disappointing WD because he shot a -5, 65 the day before and looked like he might be rounding into shape.

He got treatment for his back and entered the WGC event at Trump's Doral.

Woods is in bad shape after the first round. He shot a +4, 76. That puts him 8 back of the lead, and tied for 56th place. There are only 68 players in the event.

His back nine was an adventure. He went bogey-bogey-par-bogey-double bogey, then had three birdies in a row, before dunking his tee shot in the water on 18, and scoring a bogey.

The good news is that there's no cut at this event, so he'll play this weekend. That should help him sort through his issues. On the other hand, the bad news is that there is no cut so he won't be able to rest his back, which might be more important for his season.

A year ago, things were looking good for Woods. He won at Torry Pines, then won at Doral, then won the Arnold Palmer's Bay Hill Invitational. He was the favorite to win at the Masters, and if not for hitting a flag stick, he probably would have won.

This year, his back is in bad shape. He's not hitting the ball well. And he's not putting well.

He has a month to figure all of this out. Hopefully Woods gets it all settled because golf is just a lot more exciting when he's playing well.

Tiger Woods Sank A 91-Foot Putt And His Reaction Was Perfect

Tiger Woods has had a rough couple of weeks and is 5-over through two rounds at the Cadillac Championship at Doral.

Woods did have one bright moment when he sank a 91-foot put on the par-3 fourth hole, becoming the first golfer of the day to birdie the hole.

But the best part of the putt was Tiger's reaction after the ball found the bottom of the cup.

Woods raised his hands with a look of disbelief on his face as a weight was lifted from his shoulders. He then dismissed the putt with a slight wave seemingly acknowledging that it was but one putt in an otherwise mediocre stretch of golf.

It was just one putt. But for a fleeting moment it looked like Tiger was having fun again.

Steve Ballmer Microsoft

It's not unpleasant to be rich and powerful. It's especially not unpleasant to be rich, powerful, famous and retired.

So what's the best perk that Steve Ballmer, who is all of those things, enjoys these days?

During his first public appearance since he left Microsoft a month ago he was asked that question. He was speaking on stage with the dean of Oxford University's School of Business

He laughingly admitted:

I can play just about any golf course I want on the planet. If I can get there someone will take me out to play. I’m a lousy player but I love it.

You thought it would be something bigger and more cosmic? Noooo!

Ballmer, who is 57, also said he's pretty sure he won't spend the rest of his life playing golf "all day, every day."

He's currently "rebooting," and looking around for something new to jump into.

We'll have to wait and see if that means he'll join another company, join his friend Bill Gates in saving the world or do something else altogether, like become a really good golfer.

Tiger Woods Is So Bad Right Now That Breaking Jack Nicklaus's Record Is Out Of The Question

$

Tiger Woods

A week after withdrawing from an event because of a back injury, things were not much better for Tiger Woods at Doral where he finished 5-over par and had one of the worst rounds of his career.

Things are so bad right now for Tiger that his chase to break Jack Nicklaus's record of 18 career major championships is no longer even debatable.

Woods shot a 78 (6-over) in the final round at Doral. It was just the eighth round without a birdie in 1,128 career rounds on the PGA Tour.

The score of 78 was also Tiger's worst ever at Doral, an event he has won seven times, and was the worst final round score of his career in 312 career Tour events.

Woods showed that he is still capable of playing good golf, shooting 6-under in the third round to move into a tie for fourth place. But his round on Sunday made it clear that he is not healthy enough to compete over four days to win a golf tournament, much less a major.

On Sunday, Tiger admitted that his back problems are not going away anytime soon.

"It's the same thing. If it flares up, it flares up," Woods said (via FoxSports.com). "It's just a matter of keeping it calm...It would be nice to have a week off where I can shut it down and get some treatment."

It is early in the season, but Woods' 71.0 scoring average would be the worst of his career (see chart below) and a far cry from where his game was when he was winning majors.

At 38 years old and with 14 career major championships, Tiger is still technically on the same pace as Nicklaus who won his 15th career major at the age of 38. But Tiger is not getting any younger and his back problem looks like one that isn't going away anytime soon.

Nicklaus's record of 18 major championships will
still come up when The Masters rolls around. But the discussion will be quick and decisive.

The record is safe.

John Daly Hits It In The Water Three Times In A Row, Finishes 8-Over Par On A Single Hole

John Daly shot a 90 in the second round of the Valspar Championship — a 19-over par round that included five bogeys, three double bogeys, and one "other."

The "other" came when Daly shot a 12 on the 16th hole. His first three shots on the hole all went into the water. He also needed two chips to get onto the green from the right rough, and finished the hole by three-putting.

He ended up hole 8-over on the hole.

His adventure:

He kept a good attitude, though.

John Daly shot a 90 at the Valspar Championship today, including an 8-over 12 on the 16th hole.

After his round, he went on Twitter and yelled at a trio of golf writers (Robert Thompson, and Golf Digest's Sam Weinman and Luke Kerr-Dineen) who were talking about his ridiculously high score.

He went with one insult across the board: jerk.

Earlier in the day Thompson tweeted, "People seem surprised shot 90 today. Have they not been paying attention to the last decade? "

Kerr-Dineen's main offense seems to be an article he wrote about Daly's round, which Weinman tweeted it out.

JERKS.

They didn't take it to heart:

Tom Watson is 31 years removed since he won the last of his eight major golf championships. But Watson showed this weekend he still has a trick or two hiding in his golf bag.

The shot came on the par-3 eighth hole of the Toshiba Classic when Watson missed the green with his tee shot and ended up next to a tree. With no possibility of a normal swing, Watson turned around to hit the ball backwards.

Tom Watson

You cannot see the final result in the video below, but the ball struck the pin and ended a foot from the hole. He saved par and went on to finish tied for 20th at 9-under.

The Time Peyton Manning Trash-Talked Tiger Woods About Losing His #1 Ranking

Tiger Woods and Peyton Manning

Peyton Manning told an incredible story about how he once trash-talked Tiger Woods during a round of golf so well that Woods actually used it as motivation to become the no. 1 golfer in the world again.

During an interview with Charlie Rymer of the Golf Channel, Manning explained that with the Colts, his no-huddle audibles included "Tiger" (snap on one) and "Phil" (snap on two), a reference to Tiger being the no. 1 golfer in the world.

Manning said Tiger loved this.

Manning then recalled a conversation he had with Tiger when the two played a round of golf together following Manning's first season with the Broncos.

Tiger asked Manning what the biggest difference is between the Colts and Broncos offenses.

"Tiger, it's really similar," Manning recalled saying to Tiger. "The hardest thing for me right now is that 'McIlroy' is on one, and 'Tiger' is on two," referring to Tiger's then no. 2 ranking behind Rory McIlroy.

Manning said Tiger did not take the blow well and vowed to do something about it.

Sure enough, Woods won two events that month and returned to the top of the rankings.

Then, according to Manning, Woods called the Broncos quarterback to make sure the audible was going to be changed back.

Here is the clip.

Tiger Woods is judged by a different standard than every other golfer.

Despite the fact that he's once again No. 1 in the world rankings, it still feels like he's struggling.

Tiger is the most dominant golfer alive, but it's not good enough for him.

A huge component of that dominance is his work ethic. Whether it's playing through injuries or working out like a Navy SEAL, he's one of the most competitive people in sports.

Tiger Woods Pulls Out Of The Masters After Back Surgery

tiger woods jacked 11

Tiger Woods will not play in the 2014 Masters after having surgery on his injured back.

The injury, which forced him to skip the Arnold Palmer Invitational two weeks ago, has been bothering him since last fall.

He underwent a "microdiscectomy for a pinched nerve" that will take a few months to heal, he announced.

Here's what he said in the announcement on his website:

"After attempting to get ready for the Masters, and failing to make the necessary progress, I decided, in consultation with my doctors, to have this procedure done."

"I'd like to express my disappointment to the Augusta National membership, staff, volunteers and patrons that I will not be at the Masters. It's a week that's very special to me. It also looks like I'll be forced to miss several upcoming tournaments to focus on my rehabilitation and getting healthy."

It's the first Masters since 1994 that he won't play in.

He said he hopes to return to action this summer.

Tiger is still ranked No. 1 in the world — which could be in jeopardy depending on how deep into the summer he goes without playing.

The Masters starts next Thursday, April 10.

Unknown Aussie Golfer Makes Back-To-Back Miracle Shots To Earn Final Spot In This Week's Masters

Australian golfer Matt Jones needed to win the Shell Houston Open to earn a spot in this week's Masters Tournament.

On the 72nd hole it didn't look like it was going to happen until Jones sank two miracle shots that pushed him into the chase for the Green Jacket.

Trailing Matt Kuchar by two strokes on the final hole, Jones sank an impossible 40-foot putt for birdie, over a ridge from the edge of the green to pull within one stroke.

Jones celebrated the putt, but he was still a long ways from winning the tournament despite a sterling final round score of 6-under par.

Kuchar needed just a par on the 18th hole to win the tournament and his drive was right down the center of the fairway.

Houston Open

But when he tried to hit a fairway wood on his approach shot, things went horribly wrong and his ball ended up in the water.

Kuchar was able to save bogey and force a playoff with Jones.

Houston Open

It was then back to the 18th hole for the playoff.

Jones, who had never won a PGA Tour event, put his tee shot into the bunker.

Houston Open

Meanwhile, Kuchar placed his drive in the middle of the fairway again.

Houston Open

When Jones saw his lie in the bunker he was worried.

He then left his approach shot short of the green and in the rough.

Houston Open

After hitting his approach shot left and into the water last time, this time Kuchar hit his approach shot right and into the bunker.

Houston Open

After barely addressing the ball and seemingly only intent on getting the ball close, Jones sank his second miracle shot, this one a chip-in from the rough.

Jones was pumped up.

When Kuchar failed to sink his shot from the bunker, all that was left was the handshake and Jones needing to change his flight from Australia to Augusta.
